Why sanitary stainless steel butterfly valves corrosion resistant?

19 Wed 2025

The corrosion resistance of sanitary stainless steel butterfly valves is primarily due to the synergistic effect of their material selection, surface treatment process, and sealing materials, effectively resisting chemical corrosion, microbial contamination, and physical wear.

Material Characteristics:

Sanitary butterfly valves typically use 316L stainless steel. Its molybdenum content (2-3%) significantly enhances resistance to chloride and acidic media corrosion, while the chromium-rich oxide film formed on the surface isolates oxygen and corrosive substances.

Surface Treatment Process:

The inner surface are Ra≤0.8μm. High-precision polishing reduces microbial adhesion points and meets CIP/SIP cleaning requirements to prevent corrosion caused by residues.

Seal Materials:

DONJOY seal use EPDM, NBR, or food-grade silicone rubber, which is corrosion-resistant and meets FDA, 3A, and other hygiene standards, preventing media leakage that could lead to corrosion of metal parts.

Environmental Adaptability:

The design incorporates quick-installation structures and clamp connections for easy disassembly and cleaning, reducing the risk of corrosion caused by contamination or chemical residues.
